Just out of curiosity and boredom, I recently joined two other forums. I have now resigned my membership in both.
The first was CARM. As predicted, and as I mentioned on that thread, my post entitled "Is my friend in Hell? Whose fault is that?" (which received 9 responses here) was deleted as "inflammatory" - which can be translated as, "Makes fundamentalist Christians uncomfortable, because they might have to think about their beliefs."
The other forum is called "Do You Believe This?" - and it was much, much worse.
There is no moderation to speak of on that forum; the owner and administrator "prefers not to interfere." She "won't be a referee." Well, SOMEBODY should be.
That same post received 475 replies in less than 24 hours - many fit only for a junior-high-school playground screaming match. Foul language and one-liner insults and obscenities were thick on the ground.
The fundamentalists charged in with various accusations and smears, including some that were blatantly antisemitic (Quote: "All Jews are raised from a child to shun Christ Jesus and the Holy Bible"). I was personally insulted and lied about ("You aren't a Jew; you may have fooled the rabbis, but you don't fool me"), and was accused of saying and doing various execrable things, lying about this or that, "reeking of self-righteousness," trying to smear Christianity, looking to enrage people just for fun, and so forth. Anyone who has read my posts here knows better. When I asked for quotes to prove I was guilty of those allegations, none appeared, but more and worse insults and smears followed without letup.
I have never been treated with such open contempt in my life. I was savaged for pages on end for asking a couple of pertinent and good-faith questions. A few posters protested that I had done nothing to warrant such abuse, but they were shouted down. According to the administrator, this is just what one must expect from adults (!) who feel strongly about their beliefs, and I brought it all on myself.
A few members there disputed that, but were shouted down again. Everyone seemed to accept this sort of thing as normal and routine.
Be grateful for this forum. It's moderated fairly, no one is booted until he proves that he needs to be after repeated warnings, and pointless abuse and gutter language are not permitted. If you like wrestling in a cesspit, go to this other one. It will make you feel like you need a Valium and a shower afterward.

I'm compelled to agree. I always end up back here (I lurk around a lot 
). One of the main reasons I look at other forums, such as carm is that it gives me a sort of inside look into the more or less fundamental christian reasoning, which has a lot more presence there so to speak.
