What is wrong with abortion?

Those who exercise true love respect all human beings irrespective of their appearance or size. They, therefore, recognize the humanity of a one cell stage human being by recognizing that it is an independent life form with human genes; and has a human life force within it that initiates, directs and sustains a process to take that person through successive stages of development (over many years) to transform that person from a single cell individual to a fully grown human being with 10 trillion cells, multiple complex systems and a brain with a memory capacity equal to 20,000 computers. They, therefore see destruction of human beings in the embryonic and fetal stage as murder. They also see such an act as gross violation of human rights because it denies the victim from reaching his/her full human potential.

I guess at this stage I'm basically having trouble seeing a single human cell as independent.

I can't see a single cell as a person any more than an ant...

I don't support abortion as the easy way out when the woman had relations and had a say in it, but I do think it can be justified for a rape victim. Why should the victim face the consequences of the man's evil?

I really struggle with this delimna. On one hand, I can understand why a woman would have an abortion. What a horrible thing to have that horrible reminder of your rape for the rest of your life. And who knows what that child may turn out like. Like it's father?

But I also look at it from the kid's point of view too. Sure, that kid may learn the circumstances of it's birth and that may be traumatic, but on the other hand they may go on to have a happy and fullfilling life. It seems sort of unfair that other humans should get to decide whether it lives or dies. In the past I have looked at a small child and thought, "what if that kid had been aborted?" I also ask what if I had been aborted? And it makes you think.

But I guess I sit on the fence on this one. I can't possibly condemn any rape victim who has an abortion.

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.

Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.

There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

Yes, it's a difficult situation. The thought of forcing a sexual assault victim to go through a 9 month pregnancy and painful childbirth seems unfair to me. The girl goes through the pain and the man gets away with it. Hmm, sounds like the Bible.... (no offense intended)

Then there's the little person who is budding into life. That little person could grow up to be a sensational leader, someone who makes a big difference in the world.

Rape just shouldn't exist in the first place!

My comments are of no disrespect to you OC, but frankly it (abortion) is not a "dilemma" men personally have to deal with. That is why I personally as a women have no comment to the choices men make as to blokey stuff they have done. If a man choses to have a vasectomy, his reasons are his, and as such, it is none of my beeswax. Obviously though sperm IS a living organism, but many a man opt to nip it in the bud. As such, do you ever stop and wonder about the kid that MAY have been "if only" the daddy had not opted to cut off the supply to the fertile female? :-k MANY a man have had the V without even consulting their spouse.

There are many reasons why women opt for abortion and rape is only part of the issue. There are truly wanted pregnancies where abortion seems to be the only option. A woman can have what is called "spotting". Depending on the amount OF "spotting",could determine whether the the "to be born in X months" would be viable..or perhaps not. In many cases, it is considered partial miscarriage, but on ultrasound there is still a beating heart but not much more, so that creates much emotional distress and dilemma in the mind of the WANTING to be, mother. In cases such as that, even though the "choice" is there, as they have to sign off ON it, there is no other choice, but on their medical records, it still reads that they ABORTED their pregnancy. Even when there is miscarriage (just elevated from spotting to assumed heammorage), any woman who has been through that, STILL has to have the same procedure used in chosen abortion process. It is D&C and again on their records, it is written D&C performed and also "aborted".
But I also look at it from the kid's point of view too. Sure, that kid may learn the circumstances of it's birth and that may be traumatic, but on the other hand they may go on to have a happy and fullfilling life. It seems sort of unfair that other humans should get to decide whether it lives or dies. In the past I have looked at a small child and thought, "what if that kid had been aborted?" I think far too many people dwell on the woulda coulda's and what if's. Again sus out my vascectomy comment. Do you too have issue with male masturbation? Just "woulda coulda" THINK about what if he didn't toss off into a tissue..what LIFE it woulda, coulda been!
But I guess I sit on the fence on this one. I can't possibly condemn any rape victim who has an abortion.
As I stated, it is not always about rape and I don't condemn any man who opts for vascectomy or masturbation. ;)

In my opinion the major "wrong" in abortion is that it is a poor form of birth control – expensive, invasive, inconvenient, often emotional, stressful.

What "right to life" people may think others should do or not do is immaterial provided they are not permitted to interfere with the rights of others who have different preferences and opinions to follow their own decisions.

The emotional "arguments" about "killing the unborn" are meaningless to me. I am much more concerned with respecting the individual freedom of citizens.
