Post #1A little place to just chat about Music. What are you listening to? What music stirs your soul? Do you perform?

OK, you pulled me in!
But I have to say, there is nothing like a little "Aha" singing "Take On Me" that gets the nostalgia goin' once again.

You and I are about the same age. I LOVED DuranDuran. I went through a phase where I collected the greatest hits from several different genres - the late 60s (i.e., Herman's Hermits, The Turtles, The Lovin'Spoonful, and the like), the early 70s (Bachman Turner Overdrive, The Doobie Brothers, Elton, and the like) as well as all music from the 20-30s as rendered by Ella Fitzgerald (i.e., Gershwin, Rodger & Hart, Rodgers & Hammerstein, and the like).OnceConvinced wrote:For me, I love almost anything 80s. Even some of the bands I hated in the 80s I now have greated hits CDs of.
New Wave is my favourite genre.

I don't think I've actually heard of "Aha" or most of those others. Never quite had the nostalgia thing either. Maybe when I'm really old like you guys(nyah!) WT or evanescence will be nostalgic for me.Vanguard wrote:OK, you pulled me in!![]()

and catalyst, your parenthetical was funny, but it made me think of the song that never ends.

Do you listen to opera type stuff much? I've never gotten too into it. I looked him up. He does have a very nice voice, though its not really my style.McCulloch wrote:How about Rolando Villazón? Amazing, eh?

I didn't used to. I was into prog rock. Genesis, Peter Gabriel, Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Yes, Emerson Lake & Palmer, Jeff Beck, Procol Harum, Moody Blues, Supertramp, Weather Report, Electric Light Orchestra, Rush, Alan Parsons. But I've always enjoyed classical instrumental music. My wife introduced me to opera (she's a classically trained vocalist). Mozartian opera first (it's easiest to take). I still get excited listening to Die Zauberflöte (the Magic Flute). Gradually, she's been wearing me down. I still cannot listen to Wagner.ChristianGuy wrote:Do you listen to opera type stuff much? I've got my kids into that now. My daughter especially loves watching the video. But then who doesn't like the video.Vanguard wrote:

Society and its morals evolve and will continue to evolve. The bible however remains the same and just requires more and more apologetics and claims of "metaphors" and "symbolism" to justify it.
Prayer is like rubbing an old bottle and hoping that a genie will pop out and grant you three wishes.
There is much about this world that is mind boggling and impressive, but I see no need whatsoever to put it down to magical super powered beings.

Although it did have some success in the USA in the 80s, it was more successful in Europe and Down Under. They were from Norway. It was mainly famous for it's video for "Take on Me".FinalEnigma wrote: I don't think I've actually heard of "Aha" or most of those others. Never quite had the nostalgia thing either. Just realized there's a nickelback concert in little rock in april. I'm debating whether I want to go or not - they are one of the bands I listen to(though I'm not as fond of their latest album). I've never actually been to a concert before.
