Debating Runners!

Post by FinalEnigma »

An idea struck me while out running today, I'm trying to get in shape and get some exercise, and I'm sure there's others on here who are as well, so why not do it together and be accountable to one another? we all know that if you just do it on your own, with nobody to keep you honorable you're gonna cheat.

Now You don't have to run if running isn't your thing, you can walk, swim, bike, skip, fly or marathon somersault down the street if you like, the important thing is to get some exercise and keep up with it. You don't actually have to debate while running either, although that is worth bonus points.

I'm making a usergroup for this, and I know it's a bit silly and has nothing to do with the forum, but this is for everyone who's trying to get in shape, lose weight, or bring down their mile time.

I know I'm a few days late, but here's my new years resolution: To outrun everyone on DC&R! Now who's gonna stop me?
That's gonna be a tough one I know, as I'm not much of a runner at the moment, and I know at least Confused can outrun me, and I doubt shes gonna give ground without a fight.
And I know some of you have resolutions to get in shape. according to a poll on the news a few days ago that's the most common resolution, so who's up for doing it together? maybe a little competition and fun while we are at it?

So if you are interested, just post here with your current status(running time and distance, biking, swimming, walking, weight you're trying to lose[don't have to tell us your weight, just how much your trying to lose!]) and keep us updated every week or two weeks and post your latest accomplishment. Feel free to join the usergroup Debating Runners as well.(which I'm making right after this post)
I'll put up my mile time tomorrow once I get it timed.

My chest finally stopped hurting for a couple days straight, so I went out and ran again. This time it wasn't actually freezing outside either. I didn't time myself, but I am running again.

I walked a half block to the store and then back.
I moved furniture around.
I put up shelves too.

Got an update on time. 8:04 mile. seems I got slower over the week and a half of not running. :(
I really wish i had a means to pace myself. I'm really terrible at it. it would be really nice to, for the time being, run at a given speed(whatever would be an 8 minute mile or so) then up the speed by .1 mph each time as long as I could. eventually of course it would be impossible to keep doing that, but that would be a really good way to speed up my mile I'd bet. If only I had a treadmill.

Yesterday I ran an 8:30 or so mile, today I ran a 7:50. I completely fail at pacing myself. yesterday after I ran I wasn't even that tired. I could run on the indoor track thing they have at school, which would let me adjust ever lap, but it would be really annoying trying to work that into my schedule - its easier to run in the morning before I go.

My first day back to running after over 10 weeks out will be on Friday. My running partner and I are doing repetitive hills to jump start getting back into shape. Shooting for 3.6 miles total, doing various pushups and plyometrics at the top and bottom of each hill.

When I hear the ridiculous things you are doing it always makes me go push more.
I could...probably do that, but I wouldn't know, there are no hills in Arkansas.

But I did go out on my regular 3 mile this morning. Didn't really sleep last night and got up early(bout 6) so I went out for my run. I got a 7:47 mile for my first mile, but during the second mile, I got hit by a car. It was coming out of one of those walled communities(but no gate), so I couldn't see them coming, and they ran the stop sign. Didn't get info - they just drove away. I'm fine though, they didn't hit me very hard. I kinda bounced off the hood and they hit the brakes right after they hit me(or maybe right before, cause i wasn't hit very hard), when I went forward I rolled(Thank you judo), but I'm not really injured. my knee is hurting a bit, but its been messed up for a while and getting hit by a car can tend to irritate that, and my ankle and wrist as well. and my ribs hurt a bit. all on my right side, which will be lovely for school. my wrist is in the worst shape. I doubt it's broken, but it'll be out of commission for a few days at least(typing one handed and still faster than some people).

I didn't want to mess with police and I can't give a useful description, I know nothing about cars, and the car was white is about all I could tell them. I tried to call my dad to come get me, cause I knew he was up, but he wouldn't answer and my mom was asleep, so I just walked(or half-limped) home. But it looks like I'm not running for a few days.

I have the greatest luck don't I?

Sometimes I think that next to you FinalEnigma, I have a saint watching out for me, LOL. Glad you are okay.

We did 3.7 miles, average was a 11 minute mile uphill, 9 minute mile downhill, 15 reps of various push-ups at the bottom of the hills with 15 reps of various core (abd) routines at the top of the hills. Not bad to start. Tomorrow we do the endurance, so we will be pushing 4-6 miles with plyometrics at every half mile junction. My goal is to maintain the 10 minute mile for the entire distance losing no more than 45 seconds for every plyometric routine. I tend to do uphill bursts much better than even surface but the endurance run is still on the trails, there are just fewer hills and they aren't steep so the incline is gradual enough to adjust the pace, form, and breathing to adapt to the change in terrain.

Hey, this is cool you all are doing this.

I'm copping out until its warmer than 30 degrees outside and I don't have to jump patches of ice on the sidewalk and piles of snow at the corners.

I took up running last spring after like 20 years, training for a 5k in early August. Got it done in under 23 minutes. This summer I'm going to shoot for under 20.

Okay, sw we are running the Speed Demon trail and less than 10 minutes into it, I missed a root covered by scattered leaves. Yes, I know, warning bells were going of in my head, I just chose to ignore them as I have the newest Nickelback album on my mp3 player and I didn't pay attention to the terrain. So I slip on the leaves, invert my foot and bring my entire body weight down on my ankle that is pressed against the ground inetrucs and is serving the sole and heel of my foot. Now see, what is messed up here is that most people would say that someone who is 5'4" weighing all of 128 pounds doesn't have a lot of weight to put on areas like the ankle that will cause injury, but let me tell you, my ankle is now three times the size it should be and hurts like aldjlahoaeadlfa. But I still made the complete 4 mile circuit with the plyometrics I may have to skip the run in the am. Elevatng it nad prutting ice on it with taking Motrin may not be enough wil have to se in the am.

I need a nap.
I picked up some trash in the yard because the snow is melting.
