Why do you believe what you believe ?
Post #1Just a question, wether you believe in God or something else, why do you believe what you believe ?
So from Jerusalem all the way around to Illyricum, I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.

Post #11Most people grow up beleiving what they're parents tell them. I realised this one day, and accepted the fact that maybe my parents may be wrong. I then decided to come to my own conclusions. Recently I did this again and now I am at this site debating with the Christians about their God. I would debate Muslims but they dont have any debate sites. I am not an atheist but I dont beleive God is the same Christian God becuase the bible is not perfect and a lot of the things are not logical. I beleive in God because he has spoken to me but I dont pray anymore. I just talk to him like I would talk to you.Illyricum wrote:Just a question, wether you believe in God or something else, why do you believe what you believe ?

Just curious, but what exactly do you believe Scorpia? Are you an a christian, atheist, or agnostic?scorpia wrote:A lot of reasons. I'm not sure which.
Here's an idea; maybe I belive in what I believe because that's what I want
Something I'd probably need to consider?

I want love too. I find that Earthly sources, like other people, who I can be fairly sure actually exist, work better for me.
yes
Post #18Yes, and that's where to look, isn't it?
Besides, (Getting this off of my chest) If an atheist really doesn't believe he's going to any heaven, but cares for everyone around him and shows it, isn't this better than a christian who doesn't?
But isn't that what a christian meant to do in the first place? If he want's to be closer to God, he's supposed to love. But if someone loves, without looking for a God in the sky, maybe he gets closer to God anyway.
I'm confused.
But what I do know is that love is the most important thing

Why do I believe as I do?
Now, my own answer to, "why do I believe as I do?"
Simple...
I believe nothing.
Perhaps I aught to define the meaning of 'belief' in my world. Affecting a 'true belief' is a very powerful thing. All that emotional raw power, the stuff from which 'magick' is made. A belief was to be adopted in order to 'battery up' the 'will' and have it be done. When one has what one desires, the 'belief' is no longer necessary. If you wish to 'crush' an enemy, 'believe' in YHVH! If you are seeking 'mercy and healing', perhaps a belief in Quan-Yin would be in order. Once the 'enemy' is 'destroyed', and you are healthy, no 'beliefs' are necessary. So.. once again,..
I believe in nothing.
Some of the wisest words that I have ever heard was the advice to, "Believe nothing that you hear! Nothing that you see, and only half of what you think.... and you never know which half to believe."
Now, WHY do I harbor no beliefs? Wasnt it Nietzsche who sait that, "We calculate, but that we may calculate we had to make fiction first."
Upon sufficient examination, I have found no inherent real 'existence' in any-thing. All is 'illusion' that I enjoy the 'hell' out of, but I don't take it seriously and certainly don't believe the 'illusion' is 'reality'. That would be 'delusion'! And 'delusional' is an unhappy way to think. So, since I have found no 'thing' worthy of my 'belief', ...
I believe in nothing.
This is simply what I have found to be 'reality' and is an extremely 'subjective' understanding. All of our 'understandings' are equally valid for each of us. I respect your 'beliefs' as equally 'valid' for you as mine is for me.
But remember, 'That you may 'calculate' (think all those 'good' thoughts) first you must create 'fiction' (fantasy)."
Peace....
If you really wish to be a 'real christian', there are only a couple of things to remember. I used to be a christian and know that one of the most important forgotten commandments is that, "As you do for the least of these, so you do for Me!" Keeping this in mind will stand you in good stead come 'judgement day'. It goes right along with, "sell your possessions, give to the poor, and 'follow Me'." (That really means that you must 'sacrifice' your life in order to gain 'life'.) If nothing else, this will keep you 'humble', from whence springeth wisdom! And remember, "heaven is at hand!"scorpia wrote:But isn't that what a christian meant to do in the first place? If he want's to be closer to God, he's supposed to love.
