Forgiveness is true love

Post by arunangelo »

Forgiveness is true love because in forgiving we not only give up the claims we have over our offenders but also sacrifice our own interest in the process of bringing healing to our offenders. In God we see the fullness of forgiving love. Although God is the king of Universe and infinite in power, He humbled Himself to become a mere human being in the person of Jesus. In doing this He surrendered His will by subjecting Himself to human conditions of a sinful world. Furthermore, although we offered Him no love, betrayed Him, were unfaithful to Him and hurt Him by our sins, He sacrificed His life while suffering the most brutal torture, in order to free us from sin. In other words, He the victim compensated for the hurt we caused Him by sacrificing His own life. In doing this He stayed faithful to His covenant and showed us what true love is. If we want to follow Him we must love one another the way He loved us (John 15:12).

Proverbs 1:7, "The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge" - it would appear that the Bible advocates fearing God. In fact, I have heard many Christians describe themselves and others as God-fearing Christian. One does not need religion to be forgiving and loving. I am both forgiving and loving even though I am a Compassionist Agnostic Atheist Humanist.
True love and forgiveness is not just to love love and forgive one's friend but to sacrifice our own interest in the process of helping those who betray us, are unfaithful to us and hurt us. In order to have this love you have to believe that God became a human being in the person of Jesus and died for our sins.

That is an unsupported claim. I don't see how promoting the concept God had his son tortured to absolve us of this 'sin' thing is a concept of love actually.

That's not true forgiveness.
Moving the goal posts a bit, are we? Not forgiveness at all, but true forgiveness. Okay, so only true forgiveness is true love.
God has forgiven all your sins. It is now upto you to accept that forgiveness by being sorry for your sins.
Why? Is god's forgiveness . . . err, true forgiveness, a conditional one? If so it certainly doesn't sound like the true forgiveness you describe. God wouldn't be sacrificing his interest* in getting our acceptance. So again, why? Why is it necessary to "accept that forgiveness by being sorry for your sins"?

Because there is complete surrender of self in order to help those who were unfaithful to Him.

It wasn't a "how" question, but a"why" one.
Why is it necessary to "accept that forgiveness by being sorry for your sins"?

Please show that there is such a thing a 'free will'.

Please show that there is a 'gift' of 'God's forgiveness', other than unsupported claims from religious promotional material.

To reply to my posting is a choice. That shows you have a free will.
Forgiveness bring healing. There are many instances of people who were criminals who received this healing and changed their lives for the better.

You are mistaken. To reply to your post is a choice. That shows that goat has will. Now show that it is free.

People change their lives for various reasons. Please show that the changes you make reference to come as a gift from God, not merely from a belief in a God.
Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good.

How does my replying show there is free will. It has been predetermined from the begining, I was destined to respond to it.. no choice of my own.

As for many people who have changed 'their lives for the better', I know a number of atheists who claim their lives changed for the better by releasing themselves from their religious beliefs.
