It is not clear to me what you are having a hard time with? Is it that you believe others consider themselves superior or that you cannot reconcile how you do not feel that way?

You mean you feel superior to Theists? I have the same issue. Only when I encounter a theist who is capable of reasonable thinking and has some serious arguements I feel we're on the same level.

I never tried to deal with this. I just try to hide it.

Dear LB,

I know exactly what you mean, you feel superior. Its a powerful emotion i know it all too well. Try not let this emotion crowd your judgment. Maybe you feel like the Enlightened one that will lead others. That your moral fiber is so strong that nothing can break it. You also show humility by acknowledging you cannot handle this. Which i am sure you cannot. There are positives in this emotion. It triggers many thoughts at once. Thoughts that are the truth, thoughts of wisdom, pure and clean. try not to let it run your life.

One question, you feel superior, does your actions reflect the feeling?

...or are you feeling hypocritical because this emotion is so alien to your outward disposition?

This emotion can lead to delusion, so be very careful.

Regards
Simon

The answer is simple: you are free. You are free from the constraints of the majority, free from fear. You are free to think, say, do, feel as you please. Don't squelch the feeling, because it should be celebrated.

It's a pretty easy trap to fall into, feeling superior around theists. Their belief system makes it almost impossible in many cases for them to argue their beliefs coherently, since religion and 'faith' specifically are counter-logical and not really rational conclusions, you end up feeling smarter to the point where you almost start feeling like a different species.

I try to deal with this by considering that spirituality, or lack thereof, is only one aspect of who we are and how we make decisions. I consider myself to be a reasonably intelligent guy, but there's definitely certain fields in which I am ignorant. I've had poor luck with ladies lately, I'm a sub-par soccer player, mathmatics haven't always been that clear to me, and if I open up the hood of a car, despite understanding the underlying chemical theory that allows an engine to work, I have NO idea whatsoever what I'm looking at. If someone is spiritually ignorant, that's only one aspect, one facet of who they are. They may be significantly better versed than you in the works of shakespear, mechanical engineering, architecture, or playing the harp.

You're not going to change any minds condescending to people, you aren't going to convince someone they're wrong while calling them an idiot, and no one is going to think you're on the right path if the right path involves treating the mistaken like inferior beings. Ignorance is not a sin, it is symptom of an imperfect society. Theists are not at fault for being theists, they are victims of indoctrination, and you should keep that in mind when interacting with them.

It's still ok to mock zealous fundementalists though, at a certain point, stupid is just stupid, and should be laughed at.

You think wrong.
''''What I am is good enough if I can only be it openly.''''

''''The man said "why you think you here?" I said "I got no idea".''''

''''Je viens comme un chat
Par la nuit si noire.
Tu attends, et je tombe
Dans tes ailes blanches,
Et je vole,
Et je coule
Comme une plume.''''

Sorry to be dense........
Do you feel superior to all people you encounter? OR
Do you feel superior to all religions you've encountered?

Please come back and answer......your honesty is extremely intriguing!
