How do we know what is right, and what is wrong?
Post #1How do we know what is right, and what is wrong? For example, I think it is wrong to be a herbivore or a carnivore or an omnivore, or a parasite. I think all living things should be autotrophs. I think only autotrophs are good and the rest are evil. However, I am not certain that my thoughts are right. Can herbivores, carnivores, omnivores, and parasites become autotrophs at will? If so, why don't they? If they can't become autotrophs at will, is it really their fault that they are not autotrophs?

Post #541You are claiming it can only be that, so the burden is on you. How, if I claimed atheism means lacking a belief in God's existence, but then went around saying and doing things as though I believe God does actually exist, all the while calling myself an atheist, would you telling me that my label and beliefs are inconsistent be an attack on me? I wouldn't feel like I was attacked, but that you thought I labelled myself incorrectly and are trying to correct that to keep confusion at a minumum.

Post #543Philosophical charity. Argue against the strongest argument your interlocutor might be making. Sounds like you are simply trying to play "Gotchya."The Tanager wrote: ↑Tue Jul 18, 2023 12:27 pmYou are claiming it can only be that, so the burden is on you. The issue in your example is whether atheism is true or not.
The issue in the OP is "How do we know what is right, and what is wrong?"
Not, if a person is completely consistent in their beliefs. Or, were you trying to show that "we know what is right, and what is wrong" by the consistency of our beliefs, or if I can prove a guy on the internet is wrong about something?
Search your moral values. What do you believe is the right (moral) way to approach the OP?
