Hello All!
Ok, so I came across something very interesting last night that I would like your opinion on. There are some people out there who are considered mentally unstable because of a desire they have to have certain limbs or parts of their bodies surgically removed. The parts are perfectly fine and normal. The person just feels like they don't need it, the feel it's a nuisance, or it is causing them to feel like it's hindering them in some way. It is against the law for a surgeon to perform these surgeries and they can lose their lisence for it. Is this any different then say a woman wanting to abort her baby because, with nothing being wrong with the baby, she just feels like it's going to hold her down, she doesn't need it, or it's going to be a nuisance? I mean this is a part of her and is very attached to her. Let me know what you think!
Here Is An Interesting Scenario

Then, by your admission, pregnancy is a normal and natural result of sexual intercourse. What, pray tell, is either normal or natural about being placed under general anesthesia, having your cervix dilated, and the contents of your uterus sucked out? You cannot tell me that the majority of unplanned pregnancies are the result of rape or incest, or that the majority of pregnancies would result in physical harm to the mother. What is so hideous about the idea of not having sex if you don't want to get pregnant???? Have we sunk so low that we can't behave as something more than an animal?

Topic Reminder: The topic is not about abortion specifically. It is about whether Body Integrity Identity Disorder is any different from the desire to have an abortion. Please stick to the topic for debate.

They are going to miraculously survive being tied in a trash bag and thrown in a dumpster when they are born to mothers who didn't want them and couldn't care for them. Geez...
OK, answer me this - Which would you rather see: a fetus being aborted when it is merely an inch long, or a full term baby dead in a trash can? In fact, I saw on the news just this evening that a woman is in jail for killing her infant. They found the baby in a bedroom with its arms severed. Now, is that sooo much better than if that woman had gotten an abortion when she first got pregnant? Can you imagine the pain that baby suffered? Fetuses in the early stages of pregnancy do not have a cerebral cortex, therefor they do not have senses, particularly that of pain.

If we are going to teach creation science as an alternative to evolution,
then we should also teach the stork theory as an alternative to biological reproduction.

By the time I finished, and hit Submit, his post was already there, and I couldn't delete mine. My apologies.

Heh, it's okay, I saw that the time above your post was exactly the same as mine. This thread is a prickly one because the opportunities for digression on an emotionally charged subject are numerous.Spongemom wrote:By the time I finished, and hit Submit, his post was already there, and I couldn't delete mine. Death is a natural result of living. What pray tell, is either normal or natural about being placed under general anesthesia, having your chest opened, having a major heart valve taken out and replaced with a mechanical one, and then resealing your chest?tcay584 wrote:Then, by your admission, pregnancy is a normal and natural result of sexual intercourse. Your polemic on what is natural and unnatural just killed my father. Hope your happy.
But wait, there's more:
Pregnancy is a natural result of sexual intercourse. What pray tell, is either normal or natural about being placed under general anesthesia, and giving the woman involved a cesarean section?
Well, looks like you just killed me and probably my mother as well.
How many others need die before it becomes readily obvious that something being "unnatural" is a completely and utterly useless indicator for whether or not a given action should be allowed.
EDIT: Holy crap... Triple Crosspost...
Gilt and Vetinari shared a look. It said: While I loathe you and all of your personal philosophy to a depth unplummable by any line, I will credit you at least with not being Crispin Horsefry [The big loud idiot in the room].

Ok, let's bring it back to the original topic...
They say that people are dillusional if they want to get rid of an arm, leg, genitals, an eye... and so on and so forth. Do you think that the same dillusions that plague a person to want to get rid of these body parts (and remember, it can be for a variety of reasons such as inconvenience or harm) are the same as those that may plague a woman with all the hormones and situations she may be facing?
