Hello,
When I was on the community of Christ forum they had a chat room. What they did was set a particular time each week for prayer and discussion on their chatroom. If you declare a special time that the chatroom will be used it is more likely that people will go in on that time because they know others will be there.
set aside specific time for chatroom

The current chat functionality doesn't really work that well. So I'm planning on removing it. However, there is a chance I might replace it with the old one.
